Online Lecture with Christoph Quarch
Goucher Art Galleries is pleased to present Homecoming: On Memory, Muses, and the Need to Replant Ourselves in Nature, an online lecture by philosopher and author Dr. Christoph Quarch.
Drawing from philosophy, mythology, and contemporary ecological thought, Dr. Quarch reflects on humanity’s deep-rooted disconnection from the natural world and the urgent need to reimagine our relationship to land, memory, and belonging. Framed through the figure of the muses—historically understood as sources of inspiration grounded in specific places—the lecture explores how memory and imagination can guide a return to more reciprocal, attentive ways of inhabiting the world.
Quarch’s talk considers “homecoming” not as nostalgia, but as an active process: a replanting of human presence within ecological systems through care, responsibility, and cultural renewal. By weaving ancient philosophical traditions with present-day environmental concerns, the lecture invites participants to reflect on how remembering—collectively and creatively—might shape more sustainable futures.
This online lecture is free and open to the public and will include time for questions and discussion.
