Grab the snacks, pack the sunscreen, and get ready for some outdoor family fun at the best playgrounds around!
Oregon Ridge Park – Cockeysville
Open year-round from sunrise to sunset, historic Oregon Ridge Park offers a variety of recreational activities scattered around the facility. What was once an active iron-ore and marble mining operation in the 19th century is now an easily accessible playground with outdoor pavilions, fitness areas, and nature trails. Plan an outdoor party or pack a picnic and let the kids run free around the jungle gym.
Angel Park – Perry Hall
Through tragedy came a miracle from a community that selflessly wanted to restore happiness for a family dealing with the loss of their son. Ryan Szczybor was just 15 months old when he passed from Leukemia, and his parents Kelli and Andy were determined to help other families and children battling cancer find a safe, peaceful haven to enjoy. Their idea of turning pain into a positive was going to take available land and a group of compassionate people who shared the same dream. Eventually, the stars aligned for Angel Park, an all-inclusive playground and amphitheater to be built and supported. Over 4,000 volunteer community members heard the call and came out to help build a wonderful, new playground. A miraculous sign from above letting the Szczbor’s know that their angel will always be with them.
Northwest Regional Park – Owings Mills
Let your purple pride fly high at the Ravens themed destination playground in Northwest Regional Park. The park features a towering purple perch with tube slides, a climbing wall, and a football obstacle course that will make the kids feel like they’re chasing down Lamar Jackson at the Ravens practice facility, which just happens to be located less than a mile away. The surrounding areas include four baseball diamonds, three athletics fields, picnic pavilions, and nature trails.
Sparrows Point Park – Sparrows Point
The brand-new Sparrows Point Park project is complete and now open to the public. Where the historic Bethlehem Steel Mill once stood is now a 21-acre water view park that fills a longstanding recreational gap in the Edgemere-Sparrows Point area. The rejuvenated site features designated park playtimes where kids 5 and under can burn off energy on the 10,000 square foot playground, or play soccer, frisbee golf, and light-up rockets. Their 16,000 square foot community center houses parent-child programs, gym courts, and activity rooms. Drop in during your lunch hours for youth basketball, pickleball, or the accessible fishing/kayak pier.
Patapsco Valley State Park (Hilton Area) – Catonsville
Patapsco Valley State Park, which extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, is the perfect place to roam, explore, and discover the beauty of Baltimore County. Over 16,000 acres of recreational opportunities include hiking/biking trails, camping sites, picnic areas, and of course playgrounds! The Hilton Area is highlighted by a two-acre recycled tire playground for children five to 12 years old. Visit the nearby nature center to explore more activities for young kids, like the Junior Rangers or Little Sprouts.
